In Spanish 303. Advanced Spanish Grammar, I was introduced to the problematics things that might arise when writing or speaking in Spanish. With this course I was able to meet Major Learning Outcome 1, lagnuage proficiency. For one of our homework assignments we had to construct sentances in Spanish using the subjunctive. It was on us to determine whether the sentance required usage of the subjunctive. From this course I was able to see how similair the imperfect and the preterit really are. One of the main distinctions between the two is the fact that the imperfect is a habitual thing or routine that used to happen as to where the preterit is a one time thing. We also covered SER and ESTAR. I had an AHA moment when I realized that SER was utilized when things were more permanent, like someones place of origin or occupation, as to where ESTAR is used to describe things that are temporary, like emotions or conditions. Aditionally, we read short stories in class and discussed its relevance to the class. I liked how during this course we talked about sensative topics, like Domestic violence for example. One area I wish to continue to develop is knowing when to use the subjunctive. Sometimes it becomes difficult when there is only once subject. I plan to continue learning about these things by studying and looking at my notes. In addition I will plan to ask my professor questions and tips about how to remember certain rules.
