This course fulfills Major Learning Outcome 2 which is an understanding of the structure of the Spanish language and is able to use an appropriate level of formality according to the situation, whether in writing or in speech. Thanks to this course, I was able to expand my knowledge on the four main categories of linguistics, which are, Phonology, Syntax, Morphology, and Semantics. Through the many works done in this class, the one that stood out most was the very first test we took. Because of this test I am now able to define the four different linguistic categories. One of the questions on the test required one to define these using your own words. On top of learning this, I also had the opportunity to understand the difference between a primary and first tongue. Before this class I always thought that these were the same thing. But now I am aware that a primary tongue is the language that one speaks the most frequently. While one's first tongue is the language that they first acquired. Although I learned so much in this class I hope to keep it going. I want to get more of an understanding of phonetics and their symbols. I also hope to learn more about the different reasons why bilinguals use spanglish. I will reach these goals by continuing to take linguistic courses and reading scholarly articles, in and outside of the classroom.
