The WLC Major ProSeminar class provides students with an introduction to the Spanish major. Thanks to this course I was able to walk away with a set of tools in order to be successful in my career path. In this course we developed a resume, created an Individualized Learning Plan, and a phenomenal ePortfolio. Before this course, the resume I had, was not ready for possible employers to look over. During one class, the department had a professional resume builder come in and guide us step by step on how to build the perfect resume. Because of this, I was able to correct the errors I had on my previous one. The individualized learning plan assembled by my advisor, Dr. Urioste, gave me a sense of what classes I needed to take in order to graduate in the Spring of 2019. Thanks to him I am able to do this. Last but not least, the ePortfolio. We had multiple class times to work on our ePortfolios. This was beneficial because it gave students the opportunity to ask questions about the different requirements for the ePortfolio. Thanks to Gus Leonard, our Language Lab Coordinator, all of our questions were answered. Because of him, I am now able to provide not only the department of Spanish, but future employers, with an ePortfolio. But even after having had been equipped with these set of instruments, great opportunities were also presented. One class we were provided with the information of studying abroad and how we could cover it financially. Another time, a teaching assistant came in and spoke to us about how to apply for the teaching credential program offered here at CSUMB. Overall this course has been very different to any other course I have taken here at CSUMB. Although other courses have expanded my knowledge on the Hispanic culture and language, this has been the first to provide me with possible jobs. I hope to further explore other possible jobs with a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish! Overall this class has been more than just a core requirement.
