I was able to meet Major Learning Outcome 6 with WLC 300 SPAN 300 and WLC 400. In all of these courses I was introduced to different ways of conducting research. In WLC 300 we spent time in the computer lab learning how to use the libraries databases.
In WLC 400 in order to write a literature review, it was imperative that we have a variety of scholarly secondary sources. The amount of articles that my partner and I ended up having was more than enough. It was difficult keeping these articles organized and even more difficult finding the connections between the articles and our research questions. Luckily, we were given a handout that helped us find the answer to these questions. This handout instructed us to write the authors name, followed by the six sub themes below it. In total there were six columns. Meaning there was room for each one of our articles. Overall this was an effective research methodology. It allowed us to see all of the connections between each one of our articles.
Luckily we had access to a variety of free articles with the libraries different databases. One particular data base that I found useful was JSTOR. Most of the articles that we found of use for our capstone project were from JSTOR. Not only have I used JSTOR for capstone but I have also used it for other SPAN classes. For example when I wrote an essay for SPAN 304, I used JSOTR to find articles that analyzed the narrative I was writing about. What I enjoyed was that there were articles that were both in English and Spanish. I also liked how we had access to online books. Not only does it save one money, but it also saves time. One of the sources for our capstone project is an online book.
If it weren't for the presentations that we had in WLC 300, SPAN 300 and WLC 400 about the different technology based resources that we have, I would have never known about them. These presentations allowed us to see how these online resources are used. From one these presentations, we were introduced to Weebly. Weebly was kind of confusing to use at first but with the presentations, it became a lot easier. Because of this, I have been able to provide the reader with, what I think is a nice and simple website, talking about my accomplishment of meeting each Spanish department requirement in order to graduate.
